Unbeaten filly Atlantic Jewel will be tested at weight-for age in Saturday’s All Aged Stakes at Randwick.
The three-year-old was entered for three races on the program with trainer Mark Kavanagh announcing on Tuesday she would take on the Group One feature.
The winner of the Thousand Guineas last spring, Atlantic Jewel spent several months on the sidelines with an injury believed to have happened during her Wakeful Stakes win.
She returned with a comprehensive victory in the Group Two Sapphire Stakes for fillies and mares last Saturday week.
Her jockey Michael Rodd believes it is the right call to run in the All Aged and is confident ahead of the race.
“She is going great. She has pulled up very well,” Rodd said.
“I think it was a good call to stick at the 1400 (metres) at weight-for-age where she is pretty well in.
Rodd has ridden many star horses including Maldivian for the Kavanagh stable and rates Atlantic Jewel as a freak.
“I have been on some nice horses but she’s just freakish in every way, and in everything she does,” he said.
“I’m looking forward to Saturday. A Group One win against the older horses would be a real feather in her cap at this stage of her career.”
Rain Affair’s trainer Joe Pride is cautious about running the sprinter if the ground is too hard.
The gelding was nabbed on the line by Master Of Design in the TJ Smith Stakes run on a good track.
Eight of Rain Affair’s 11 wins have been on ground rated dead or worse.
